Each classroom group has many opportunities to play outside in our beautiful playground. We are a SunSmart Preschool and follow guidelines for outdoor play as set by the Cancer Council. Children are required to wear a hat all year round.
Children are provided with a range of activities and experiences to cater for all their needs and interests. There are several areas where children can practice gross motor skills, such as climbing up, sliding down and negotiating obstacles as well as numerous ‘imaginative’ play areas, including a large sand pit, cubby house, mud kitchen and all manner of role-play equipment and costumes. There are also garden beds and sensory areas where the children can experience different textures and smells from the natural world, like a herb garden, digging patch and pathways made from different materials. Recently we have included an Indigenous Learning Environment which incorporates an Aboriginal bush tucker garden, a gunyah and a yarning circle.
At the completion of outside play, children are invited to tidy the playground so that it is neat and organised, ready for the next classroom group come out. Encouraging respect for our preschool and our environment is an important aspect of outside play.
